Hausa

Hausa

(Cinestudio)

Speaking of bigger, badder, and different, there is “House.” Greater, might have to be left out however. This film apparently came from the late seventies and is only now getting its just due. And it is remarkably from its period, with great video like editing effects and transitions that I haven’t witnessed since I experimented with them myself on an old VHS to VHS tape deck.

The film is crazy and gonzo, and cares little for plot. I guess that’s what gives it its rep. And it did make me laugh. It didn’t make me scared. And the gore never was really there. I can’t say that I viewed it as any more than a oddity. But as Criterion seems to have picked it up for distribution, maybe I am missing something. I doubt it. But who knows, maybe I’ll encounter this flick again.
